Warren Tetting Grippers = Symbols of Strength

As a collector of torsion spring hand grippers I've seen and handled over the years many different types of grippers and all different brands but out of the hundreds of hand grippers out on the market today there is still NONE that symbolize strength, beauty, and craftsmanship like the grippers that Warren Tetting has made for nearly 50 years!

I have a collection of nearly 300 torsion spring grippers and I own more Tetting grippers (also known as Beef Builder's, BB) than any other brand with Captains of Crush by Iron Mind running a close second and it's interesting to note that COC's are direct descendants from Warren's iconic grippers that started in 1964 and are still going strong today! If it wasn't for Warren Tetting there's a good chance that there would have never been COC's as well! This is not in any way taking away from what Iron Mind has accomplished today with their incredible hand grippers, it's simply a logical conclusion that is readily obvious.

Several weeks ago I ordered a Master gripper from Matt Cannon from Cannon Power Works and I ordered it because Matt stated that this gripper was unique in the fact that both handles got an M stamped on them and that the spread was extra wide with a very stiff spring. When I received the gripper in the mail (blazing fast I might add)it was no surprise that the gripper was absolutely beautiful and when holding this gripper it gave me a great feeling inside that can't be described unless you can appreciate the history, craftsmanship, and attention to details that goes into every one of Warren's grippers! I rated (RGC) this gripper myself 3 different times and it rated @ 117 lbs. which is seven pounds heavier than an average COC #2 hand gripper.

I might also add that over the years Warren has made 14 different strength TSG's from a Beginner to the NEW Hercules gripper that will NEVER be closed by human hands! I've also included a pic of the Hercules gripper with a miniature gorilla sitting beneath this mammoth spring of a gripper!!!

In closing I thought I would add a few pics of this amazing hand gripper made by the Master himself, Warren Tetting! The Godfather of the Heavy Duty Torsion Spring Hand Gripper!!!

Hope you enjoy this article as much as I enjoyed writing it in honor of a great friend,
master craftsman, and icon in the World of Grip! I simply can't imagine what the grip scene would look like today if it wasn't for the efforts of Warren Tetting!!!

50th Birthday & Feeling Great!!!

Yesterday was my 50th B-Day and I must say it was one of the BEST days of my life! My wife had a surprise B-Day party for me and I got to see family and friends I haven't seen in years. One of my goals this year was to develop six pack abs with clean eating and consistent core training along with my other training which includes grip work & forearm development. I'm a BIG fan of Chad Waterbury and I followed many of his training concepts and nutrition guidelines to help develop my abs and overall core. Thanks Chad!!! I've posted some pics to show my progress with both my abs and my forearms. My abs still lack development in the lower, right and left quadrants. My size goal for my forearms is 14" and I currently lack a 1/4" of reaching my goal. I feel better and stronger now than I did at any other time in my life. As I've aged my body doesn't respond or adapt as efficient as when I was younger but with sensible, realistic training where less sometimes allows more I've actually progressed faster than expected. One thing I've learned is that age should never be a factor in your decision to start a fitness lifestyle where one can feel and look as good as they desire if they want it bad enough.
I'm proud of my accomplishments over the past 33 years of my involvement in the Iron Game. I've tried and participated in many different sports but it seems that weight lifting, grip work, and arm wrestling are just part of my life till the day I die. I may be 50 years old but I guarantee you I'm just getting warmed-up in my life!!! Thanks for following my progress!!! I would like to end this post with a saying I once read and I've adhered to it ever since. "Learn to move correctly and then move often"

Double Body Weight Squat Goal - #400

I have a NEW goal in my squatting that I have now set out to achieve that
I've wanted to be able to do for some time now.

In September of this year I'll be 50 years old and I would like to be able to
squat 400 lbs. RAW (double BW) and break parallel on depth.

For some guidance and World Class help I contacted long time friend and former
World Champion Powerlifter and 2x World's Strongest Woman, Jill Mills!

I told Jill what I was trying to accomplish and ask for her professional guidance
so that I get this right. She agreed and I'm now on a path to achieving my goal!

I met Jill and her husband Milo at her first competition at a Strongman/woman Contest in Texas in 1997. Later down the road we became good friends due to my sons competing in Strongman as well as myself for several years. Me and my sons competed in numerous contests along with Jill and Milo.

Jill is a World Class Athlete with a World Class personality and attitude to go along with her phenomenal strength! Below is a video of Jill's STRENGTH!!!

I'll keep you posted on my progress and I will post a video of my achieved goal when that time
comes. My goal is to accomplish this before I turn 51 years of age.

Ex-O-Wrist

I would like to introduce my followers and viewers to an exciting NEW training tool
I discovered from a man in Ohio by the name of Brian Foltz. The training tool is called the Ex-O-Wrist. Designed by a chiropractor and sold through the Ex-O-Wrist website.

Within a week or so I will do a video demonstration on my You Tube channel and link it here on my Blog. My You Tube Channel is listed to the left of this post under Links.

I will say that I have found this to be the PERFECT warm-up training tool prior to your gripper training. It thoroughly warms-up the fingers, hands, wrist, elbows, and shoulders prior to nearly any type of upper body training/conditioning!

The device only weighs 13 ounces. Slightly over 10 inches in length. The cone shaped handles taper from 1-7/8" down to 1-1/4". The tension is adjusted by the end piece that is shaped like a flat-blade screwdriver. Turning the end piece clockwise increases the tension which can be adjusted from barely nothing to impossible quickly! The plastic seems indestructible! Not flimsy at all! The friction device in the center is designed to last a lifetime with occasional maintenance such as wiping away any excess dust/debris if it becomes necessary.

I have found no training tool to date that warms-up my fingers, hands, forearms, elbows, and shoulders prior to gripper training than the Ex-O-Wrist!

The Ex-O-Wrist can also be used as a stand alone training device to strengthen and condition your upper body. You'll quickly see why when I do my video demonstration. Brian has come up with ways to use this wrist roller type device that are simply genius!!! You can see his video demonstration at his website by clicking on this Blog Post Title above.

You can see larger view by simply clicking on the pictures to enlarge. The picture with the gripper laid beside the Ex-O-Wrist is for an idea of it's relative size. The gripper pictured is a Gillingham High Performance, GHP, Level 10.

Stay tuned for my mini video review/demo!!!

Hands and MORE Hands! Book Recommendations

Here's a picture of 2 books about hands that I highly recommend to anyone involved
in GRIP or for that matter anyone who uses their hands.

Both are written by former physicians and are well written and illustrated.

Either or both books can be purchased by clicking the title of this blog post for less than the price of a gripper.

I can tell you from my own experience after reading these 2 books I came away with TONS more knowledge about my hands than I could have ever imagined.

Get them if you can! You'll be pleasantly surprised my Grip friends!!!

Here's a FACT to consider. The GORILLA IS NOT KING when it comes to GRIP STRENGTH! Care to guess what primate is KING and WHY?

DIY Injury Rehab - Got Tennis Elbow?

Here's a video of a GREAT resource I came across and am now using on a daily basis.
Tennis Elbow (lateral epicondylitis)is one of the most common injuries related to grip sports and Ian Constable has a very unique and worthwhile program you can purchase for nearly the price of a hand gripper and get you on the road to recovery and back to training.

To top things off Ian Constable knows exactly what he's doing with 25 years of experience in tendinopathies.

I'm on day 9 of my treatments and I can certainly tell the difference. The video assessment is FREE and very comprehensive. You'll get an e-mail describing your condition and at what stage your tendonitis is currently at and what exercises are best for you. This IS NOT a "cookie cutter" program where one program fits all. Your video exercises are designed specifically for YOU and your current condition. This is what I like BEST about DIYINJURYREHAB!!!

Hope you follow the video and go to his HOME PAGE and click "Tennis Elbow Assessment" to get started on your road to recovery!

You can go to the HOME page by simply clicking on my title page at the top of this blog post!

Tell Ian that Mighty Joe sent you!!!

Hope this helps!!!

Stay STRONG and Injury Free!!!

200th Gripper = GHP Level 10

Here's a pic of my 200th gripper to my collection and it's a very special gripper
indeed!

Wade Gillingham of Gripper Super Store sent me a GHP Level 10 Gripper that was the
2nd one made. Wade told me Richard Sorin got the first one and Wade got number 3 and 4.

For a collector like myself this is HUGE!

I left the gripper in the package as I received it marked No.2 by Wade Gillingham
as can be seen from the pic along with the rest of the GHP line-up.

Move over Iron Mind Captain's of Crush! There's a NEW gold standard in torsion spring hand grippers and they go by the name, Gillingham High Performance!!!

I would like to THANK Wade for being so considerate in letting me have this gripper!!!

You're a class act Wade!!!

NEWS FLASH - GHP Grippers 1-9 ARE HERE!!!

Pictured are Wade Gillingham's NEW GHP Torsion Spring Grippers, levels 1 - 9 and level 10
is NOW available as well!!!

These grippers can be purchased right NOW by clicking on the "title" of this blog post!

Here's a pic of the LINEUP and LEVEL 6 CLOSE!!!

STAY TUNED!!!

2-Finger Gripper

Here's some pictures of my NEW 2-Finger Gripper I had custom made from my good friend
Arian Tepper from PythonGrip.

I've always been a big fan of 2 finger training and for reasons unknown to me I've always had
strong ring/pinky fingers from both hands.

This NEW gripper is my goal gripper for RP finger closes.

The handles are 2" in length with the handles being different diameters.
The larger diameter (.980") handle goes in the palm and the smaller diameter (.750")
handle towards the fingers. The handle diameter combination and length make these superior
to the IMTUGS from IronMind both in secure placement in the hand and better control through the crush movement.

The gripper calibrated RGC 49.8 kg. (110 lbs) which is equivalent to an average COC #2 gripper.

I'm currently slightly past parallel with both right and left hand. I will keep a record of my progress here on my blog and my YouTube channel.

STAY TUNED!!!

TNS Gripper from Python Grip = UNCLOSEABLE

One of my Christmas presents for 2011 was a Custom Made Gripper from PythonGrip
that was designed for No-Set or Table No-Set (TNS) closes.

The black aluminum handles are engraved with "Uncloseable" on one handle and Python Grip
on the other.

The handle spread is 61mm (2.40") which is slightly wider than credit card width.

The spring is 8mm (.312") diameter with a slightly below flush mount.

The gripper was RGC calibrated after 20 reps seasoning and oiling. I will not disclose the
rating at this time due to a possible certification process I'm working on for TNS/NS closes.

I've included some pictures here for your enjoyment!

Hope everyone had a great holiday season and may 2012 bring you NEW PR's and progress in
your training!!!
